Jonestown Live!

In 1977, Jim Jones and more than a thousand of his followers moved to Guyana to live in the newly established socialist utopian society, The People’s Temple and Jonestown settlement.

A little more than one year later, more than 900 of those followers were dead by suicide and murder committed under the direction of Reverend Jim Jones. Spumoni’s one act musical, “Jonestown Live!” only survived three performance at the Uris Theatre.

Walter Kerr of the New York Times wrote “Jonestown Live” has zero pulse and is DOA. There is not a laugh. Not one. I counted. Other than the cast, no one in the audience is “drinking Spumoni’s Kool-Aid.”
